Stark Contrasts

Location: Beautiful Things, East Street Auckland
Date: May-Jun 2023

These works evolved from my use of marbling and introducing different colours of clay. Sometimes the colours gelled, sometimes they didn’t, the success of the fit being purely subjective. I began to see this colour contrast as being symbolic of ideology or populations. A harmonious mix represents a discussion of ideas and cultures, whereas a clash implies voices shouting against each other. The stark contrast of these voices perhaps represents our social-media influenced, partisan world of today.
